5.1.3. Applicant name: Australian company (Pty Ltd, Ltd)

Date Published

A company (Pty Ltd, Ltd) can be an applicant because it meets the definition of a person. If the applicant is a company, the application must give the full name under which the company is incorporated.

Companies in Australia will have an Australian Company Number (ACN) or Australian Business Number (ABN) as a unique identifier. The application should provide this identifier. If it does not, we may need to query the application. For example, ‘John’s Plumbing Pty Ltd’ is acceptable. If the application gives just ‘John’s Plumbing’, this could be a business name (see below), so it needs to be clarified.

If an individual name is supplied in combination with an ACN, this detail should be checked to see the relationship. The applicant may have to confirm whether the application should proceed in the name of the individual and/or the company.
