5.3.1 Formalities checking

Date Published

All applications go through a 'formalities check' at filing. This is to make sure they comply with the formal requirements for a patent. In practice, CEG completes most of this process before examination starts. However, sometimes examiners may need to consider whether the material filed meets the formality requirements.

The following sections provide information on formality requirements that may be relevant during examination.
