Sub-codes can collect together documents which relate to distinguishable facets of an IPC sub-group (e.g. a particular chemical compound in a class of compounds, or mechanical devices having a particular feature within a broader IPC sub-group). They can also be applied across groups of the IPC. The IPC Classification Arbiter may be of assistance in selecting suitable sub-codes for sub-coding. The sub-code need not relate to the inventive feature, as this is included in the annotation. In PAMS there is no provision to include sub-codes.
Sub-codes are not in use any more.
