5.3.1 Formalities checking

All applications go through a 'formalities check' at filing. This is to make sure they comply with the formal requirements for a patent. In practice, CEG completes most of this process before examination starts. However, sometimes examiners may need to consider whether the material filed meets the formality requirements.
